Project X Plug-In Troubleshooting Guide
Windows 95/NT Users
- Problem: When you try to download the DLL, you see garbage on the
screen.
- Solution: Hold the right button down on the link for the DLL.
After the menu pops up, select the "Save Link As..." and save the the file into
the Netscape (or Internet Explorer) Plugins folder.
- Problem: What should you do with the zip
file?
- Solution: You need to unzip the file and place the dll you get
into the Netscape (or Internet Explorer) Plugins folder.
- Problem: How do I get IE 3.0 to open a
page?
- Solution: There seems to be a small problem with Netscape Plugins
in IE 3.0. To get around this problem, you have to triple click on a node to open it
up.
- Problem: I have the plugin installed, but my browser does not
recognize it.
- Solution: First make sure that you have the plugin installed in
the right browser's folder. Then, go upto Help and select the About Plugins option.
You should see an entry for the Mime Type image/vasa. If not, the plugin is in the
wrong folder, or you have not restarted the browser after you put in the plugin. If the
plugin is not enabled (i.e., the last column does not say Yes), then you should
enable the plugin by going into Options and then General Preferences and then Helpers
and enable it.
68K Macintosh Users
- Problem: My machine completely freezes up when I try to see an
XSpace.
- Solution: Most likely, you are running on a machine without an
FPU. You need to download the version of the plugin which does not require an FPU.
You can get it from here.
Other Problems on MacOS
- Problem: I have the plugin installed, but my browser does not
recognize it.
- Solution: First make sure that you have the plugin installed in the right
browser's folder. Then, go upto Help and select the About Plugins option. You should
see an entry for the Mime Type image/vasa. If not, the plugin is in the wrong folder,
or you have not restarted the browser after you put in the plugin. If the plugin
is not enabled (i.e., the last column does not say Yes), then you should enable the
plugin by going into Options and then General Preferences and then Helpers and enable it.
- Problem: Sometimes, the XSpace window does not appear.
- Solution: Click once where the XSpace ought to be, and it will
appear. Another problem, one that typically occurs with Netscape 3.0 is that there
simply isn't enough memory left to load in the plugin. The solution for this is to
use Virtual Memory.
